You

Image2    You are by far the most important thing in my life…you have been from the beginning. Even before I knew you, I was searching for you, making you the center of my existence long before I ever saw your face. You are my greatest journey.

You accepted me from the beginning as I was, showing me what unconditional love meant, without demands, without lessons, without lectures. I know I was slower to follow, but you taught me well by your example–you are the first I have ever loved with my whole heart, unconditionally, without reservation or hesitation. You are my greatest Muse.

Image6You have bad habits. Each one is so unique and special I couldn’t imagine you without them. I would miss each and every one of those unfortunate traits if you were to change them. You have been my greatest place of peace.

You have good habits. All of which have made my life better and a few that have leaked into me, making me better than I was. You are my greatest teacher.

Image4I know you’re tired. I know you’re in pain. I know you’re angry…I am those things with you; not because of you. You are the beginning and the end of my universe. Without you, there is nothing so I am happy to be tired with you and for you. I will carry you when you can’t take another step. I will get out and push when you can’t move. It’s easy because there is nothing in my life but you. You are my greatest source of strength.

I know you are sad. I am sad with you. But watch the smile on my face, because it knows we will make it through this…there is no other choice for me. My world is you, and as long as there is breath in us, the world continues. You are my greatest hope.

Image5I see you when you think I’m not watching, fixing the things I don’t do right…I know the bowls don’t go there and I’m sorry I’m not as quick to the laundry as you were. But I’ll get there, as long as it’s you I’m doing it for. You are my greatest sense of purpose.

My future is you. My past is you. There is no distance I won’t travel and no weight I can’t bear for you. As long as we have breath, I will have strength enough for everything we must go through. You are my greatest love.

Image7You are my only love, purpose, hope, strength, teacher, peace, muse and journey and I would not trade one second of them for anything–except for your life. Because there is nothing I wouldn’t trade for your life, including my own.

  1. Oh, S.L.! This touched my heart so deeply. It almost sounds trite to hear someone say, “You complete me.” But truly you and Diane complete each other. This so beautifully affirms that and so much more.

  2. How beautiful are your words to and about your lovely wife. God is good to give us such wonderful spouses. My husband and I feel the same way about each other. We are both believers in the Lord Jesus Christ, and He has so enriched the bond we have. He also gives us hope and strength to endure those hard times when we feel inadequate to deal with monsoons and tornadoes of life when they hit. Blessings to you both. Thank you for your service to our country. Our military and their families sacrifice so much. My husband was in the military for eight years. We understand the hardships.
